When Portsmouth Comic Con returns to Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May in 2025, it will include, for the first time, a celebration of the massive pop-culture phenomenon, Star Trek!
USS Riker’s Beard, one of the most active Star Trek fan groups in the UK today, will be in attendance with a full replica of the bridge of the Starship Enterprise D, inviting Trekkies and Trekkers to take the helm and have their photo taken aboard the iconic set.
Initially formed in 2012, the USS Riker’s Beard group, which adopted its name from Commander William T. Riker’s legendary facial hair, has expanded their props over the years to include the large bridge set which consists of command chairs, an ops station, transporter room, an engineering set and a full size shuttle craft.
Event Director for Portsmouth Comic Con, Nick Coles said, “We have been asked a number of times over the years to increase the amount of Star Trek-related content at the Con. Up ‘til now, we have found it challenging to find experiences of the size and quality that match what we are known for offering audiences at Portsmouth, so we are delighted to be working with USS Riker’s Beard to appeal to the Trekkies and open up the Star Trek phenomenon to a whole new generation!”
Today’s Star Trek celebration is the first immersive experience to be announced for the upcoming Portsmouth Comic Con, the largest family-friendly comic con of its kind, presenting the best in comic, film, TV and pop culture entertainment in a full and fun weekend for all the family.
Widely regarded as an unmissable event in the comic con calendar, Portsmouth Con’s attractions include the impressive comic-focused Artist Alley, featuring the creators of some of the comic world’s most popular and iconic characters, colourful cosplay parades, compelling panels and discussions, workshop opportunities and gaming zones, as well as one of the largest selections of comics, collectables and merch around.
With guests and further immersive experiences set to be announced, tickets for the event which has historically been a sell-out, will make the ideal Christmas gift.
