Photography at Portsmouth Comic Con

Please note that official media, photographers and videographers are in attendance to capture the magic of Portsmouth Comic Con and will be identifiable by an official Media Pass. We use the images and film taken across our print and digital platforms to promote Portsmouth Comic Con, Portsmouth Guildhall and The Guildhall Trust.

By entering Portsmouth Comic Con you acknowledge that photography/filming is taking place and consent that you or your child’s image may be taken and used in future publicity without payment. Please let the photographer/videographer know if you do not wish for a close-up image to be taken.

If you do not wish to be used in the Guildhall Trust’s future publicity you can collect a wristband from the Information point, which will need to be visible throughout the day.

Personal cameras/devices used casually for non-commercial purposes are generally permitted, but we ask everyone to comply with our photography and consent policies.

Photography & videography guidelines for media and content creators

Portsmouth Comic Con is fun, vibrant and family-friendly event which offers a variety of photography opportunities. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all attendees, we ask photographers and videographers to follow these guidelines during the event:

Keep Walkways and Exits Clear

Please be mindful of your surroundings. Do not obstruct walkways, exits, or emergency routes while taking photos or recording video. This is vital for maintaining a safe environment for everyone.

Flash Photography Restrictions

To ensure the comfort of all guests, flash photography is prohibited in certain areas, such as during panels on all our stages and in the quiet room. Be aware of these spaces and avoid using flashes in sensitive areas. Additionally, please limit excessive use of flash in other areas to prevent disruption to other attendees.

No Free Standing Equipment

Any equipment used must be held by the photographer or videographer. Free standing equipment or additional equipment held by other people e.g. lights and flashes is not permitted, unless part of a booked trading or exhibiting space. This equally applies to all ticket types, including those with a Media Pass.

Respect Fellow Visitors

It is unacceptable to take or attempt to take photos or videos deliberately geared towards compromising common decency or the dignity of the subject. Permission must be sought from the subject(s) of a photograph before beginning to take photographs or record footage; the photographer/videographer must also oblige if the subject requests to see the photograph/video taken, and tell the subject where the content will be used or posted. Respect personal boundaries and respect that not all attendees and cosplayers wish to be photographed or recorded.

Sale of Photography or Videography Services

The sale of photography or videography services is not permitted unless prearranged with the event organisers (please note: this includes all photography and videography services including post-event editing). If you plan to sell photograph or video services to attendees, this must be done as part of an exhibition stand, declared and agreed upon in advance, and strictly limited to your designated stand space.

Compliance

To maintain a safe and enjoyable environment, Portsmouth Comic Con staff will monitor compliance with this policy. While personal devices used casually for non commercial purposes are generally permitted, we may intervene if:

  • Personal device usage infringes on the privacy of others.
  • Content is being captured in restricted or sensitive areas.
  • Device usage disrupts event operations or compromises safety.
  •

In such cases, our team may request the activity to cease or take further action if necessary. If you require any further information, please contact [email protected] and [email protected]
