Stan Lee Tribute
It’s safe to say when it comes to the Fandom Universe that Portsmouth Comic Con calls home, Stan Lee is the man that started it all – so we saw it fitting to pay tribute to the man that pathed the way, and we would like to invite you to join us. Excelsior!
Roy Thomas and Steve Englehart worked very closely over the years with their Marvel compatriot Stan Lee, with Roy Thomas taking over the reigns as Editor-In-Chief of the publisher in 1972. On Saturday at 11am on the stage outside the Guildhall Steps they will both be partaking in a panel Celebrating Stan Lee hosted by Tripwire’s Andy Coleman.
“Working at Marvel then was a fabulous job—and you were a great boss! Sure, we had our arguments from time to time (which I nearly always lost), but I admired the fact you never bore a grudge. When a disagreement was over, it was over. Period. It was instantly so far in the past, it might as well never have happened. Today and tomorrow—that’s what you were all about.” – Roy Thomas
Stan Lee / Alex Ross Exhibition
Artwork inspired by Stan Lee and created by Alex Ross, two of the biggest names in comic books, will be exhibited at this year’s Portsmouth Comic Con. Organised by Portsmouth Guildhall in partnership with Bournemouth’s Westover Gallery, this unique exhibition will present a number of signed limited edition pieces from Stan Lee’s Marvel Collection and artist Alex Ross that Comic Con visitors can view and purchase. Rarely displayed outside a gallery setting, this is a unique opportunity to see the artwork from some of the most influential and highly-respected figures in the comic book world in an exhibition that is exclusive to Portsmouth Comic Con. The artworks pay homage to the incredible superheroes that have been tirelessly drawn by some of the greatest artists in the world, including Jack Kirby, John Romita Jr and John Buscema, and will captivate visitors of all ages. Here at Portsmouth Comic Con we would like to invite our attendees to pay tribute to the man who started it all. By the entrance of Comic City 1 there will be a Stan Lee Tribute Wall where we are inviting you to add your thoughts, memories or even draw some illustrations in memory of Stan Lee.
