In what is shaping up to be the hottest Comic Con in the UK in 2020, an impressive Artists Alley of guests, sponsored by Catawiki, will be complemented with incisive panels, exhibitions, displays, workshops, merch, cosplay and interactive fun in the form of VR, robots and gaming and more featuring a ‘Celebration of Female Superheroes’ (Saturday) and ‘A World of Witchcraft and Wizardry’ (Sunday).
Joining some of the biggest names in the industry already announced including Adam Hughes, Rick Leonardi, Marguerite Sauvage, Janet K Lee, Roy Richardson, June Brigman, Katie Schenkel and The Etherington Brothers, we are now delighted to announce that Gary Erskine and Martin Simmonds will be returning to Portsmouth by popular demand!
Gary Erskine has worked in the comic industry for over 25 years for Marvel, DC Comics, Vertigo, Dark Horse Comics, Image and IDW on characters as diverse as Judge Dredd, Starman, Dan Dare and Captain America. As well as appearing in Portsmouth’s Artists Alley, Erskine will be delivering a character design workshop to help inspire budding artists to create their own character for a comic book series or game. With one-to-one critiques and portfolio reviews included, spaces on this workshop will be extremely limited and must be booked in advance. Further details and registration will be sent to ticket holders very soon so don’t delay in getting yours!
We are also delighted to welcome back Martin Simmonds, who is comic artist and co-creator of Dying is Easy for IDW, Punks Not Dead for Black Crown and Friendo for Vault Comics and also a contributing artist to Marvel’s The Immortal Hulk and series cover artist for Marvel’s Quicksilver: No Surrender and Jessica Jones.
Visitors to Portsmouth Comic Con will also have the opportunity to meet the stars of the screen and we are delighted to announce that celebrity guests, Brian Wheeler and David Bulbeck will be joining previously announced Star Wars’ Pam Rose.
Brian Wheeler started in the entertainment business when he answered an advert for people 4’6” and under for a film which turned out to be Return of the Jedi, where Brian played an Ewok and Jawa! This led to parts in many films including The Never Ending Story, Hard Men, Phantom of the Opera and four of the Harry Potter films where he played a Banker in Gringotts Bank and a supporter in Goblets of Fire.
David Bulbeck has appeared in numerous films and TV programmes, shows and cabaret performances including several episodes of Dr Who, Blackadder, Jeeves & Wooster, Superman II, A View to Kill, Quantum of Solace, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He has also done puppeteer work on many films including Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, The Muppet Christmas Carol and Little Shop of Horrors.
