In the lead up to the 2nd
Portsmouth Comic Con – International Festival of Comics being held at
Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May,
the Con will be presenting its very own Free
Art Friday events.
Portsmouth Comic Con is a huge advocate of local independent artists and comic
art and every 2 weeks from now until the event, will place a stunning piece of
art somewhere across the city for one lucky person to find and keep. All they
ask is that the winner posts pictures and tells the world of their find!
The first piece of art up for grabs is by local talent Stevie Hunt, known for
his distinctly fierce stencil work and pop culture content. Artists featuring
in future weeks include rising indie art stars Daniel Cook, Rhys Wootton and
Clark Bint.
All artists featured in the Free Art
Friday events will also be appearing at the Con in a fantastic opportunity for
winners to meet the artist and have their pieces of art signed.
Free Art Friday, with its origins in
Portsmouth and popularised by street artist My Dog Sighs, is an established
movement where creators gift pieces of original art to the public.
Portsmouth Comic Con brings
you the best of comic, film, TV and pop culture entertainment featuring some of
the best comic artists from across the world with a
full programme of panels, displays, cult series characters and props, workshops
and entertainment including VR, motion capture, robots, retro and board gaming
and a Comic City of comics, art, prints, crafts, toys, collectables and merch.
Meet stars of the screen Clem So (Dr Who, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars:
The Force Awakens) and Brian Wheeler (Star Wars, Harry Potter) and take to the
Carnival of Cosplay stage hosted by event partner Go Geek Events to amaze with
your creativity and imagination in daily adult and child cosplay competitions.
