Troy Alders

As anticipation builds for the UK release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this week, there is surely nobody more excited than the team behind Portsmouth Comic Con, who are busy planning for the largest Comic Con in the South to return to Portsmouth Guildhall on 2nd – 3rd May 2020?!

At the annual event, just ahead of the official Star Wars Day, fans of the franchise will have the chance to meet some of the creators behind the intergalactic epic, stars from the screen, costumed characters and enjoy a host of props, exhibitions and merch.

Joining the prestigious Artists Alley, sponsored by Catawiki, is Troy Alders, who has served as art director for Lucasfilm/Disney Consumer Products for over 25 years. His storied career began designing first-run movie posters in the 1980s in Hollywood, and then as art director of music merchandise for the biggest names in music at Winterland in San Francisco.

With over 35 years of experience as an art director and graphic designer in the industry, Troy has won numerous awards and had work exhibited across the US, Europe and Asia. He is highly commended for his work on the Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire multimedia project, among the many initiatives he has led for Star Wars merchandise art development over the years.

Conducting portfolio reviews, providing critiques and offering tips to budding graphic designers and illustrators, visitors are encouraged to bring a selection of their best work and let Troy see if they have what it takes to create for the ever-expanding Star Wars galaxy!

Troy Alders joins other notable guests in the Artists Alley who have worked on the pop culture phenomenon, Gary Erskine and Rick Leonardi, who worked on Dark Horse’ Darth Vader series.

For visitors wishing to meet those who were in front of the camera in the space opera, they will not be disappointed with Brian Wheeler who played an Ewok and a Jawa in Return of the Jedi and Pam Rose who played Leesub Sirln, a Qiraash in Chalmun’s Cantin in Episode IV A New Hope.

A whole host of impressive Star Wars Cosplay Icons will be brought to the event by our partner, GoGeek Events, and we are delighted to announce the return of The Isle of Wight Garrison of the 501st Legion, the largest Star Wars costuming group in the world, who will be in attendance with a wide range of scenes and props.

If you’re still to buy Christmas gifts for the comic, film, TV and pop culture fans in your life, tickets to Portsmouth Comic Con – International Festival of Comics would be a great choice!

In what is shaping up to be the hottest Comic Con in the UK in 2020, featuring ‘A Celebration of Female Superheroes’ (Saturday) and ‘A World of Witchcraft and Wizardry’ (Sunday) there will be incisive panels, exhibitions, displays, workshops, merch, cosplay and interactive fun in the form of VR, robots, gaming and more.
